Russia, Ukraine contribute 1.2% of Vietnam’s 2021 overall trade revenue

Although Vietnam’s trade with Russia and Ukraine increased sharply in 2021, the two markets account for only about 1.2 percent, equivalent to $7.8 billion, according to Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and Russia in 2021 was reported at $7.14 billion, up 25.9 percent from 2020.

Russia exports to Vietnam reached $2.24 billion, up 38.3 percent, while imports from Vietnam hit $4.89 billion, up 20.9 percent compared to 2020. Vietnam ranked 12th among the main import partners of Russia. In 2021, Vietnam had a trade surplus with Russia of $2.65 billion, according to Vietnamese Trade Counselor in Russia

Vietnam is Russia's largest trading partner in the ASEAN region and the fifth largest in APEC economies, after China, the United States, South Korea, and Japan.

Two-way trade between Vietnam and Ukraine in 2021 reached $720 million, an increase of 50 percent compared to 2020, but accounting for only 0.1% of Vietnam's total import and export turnover. In which, exports reached $344.6 million. Vietnam suffered a trade deficit of $30 million from Ukraine.

In 2021, the total import-export turnover of Vietnam reached $668.5 billion, an increase of nearly 23 percent compared to 2020. In which, the export value of goods reached $336 billion, up 19 percent and imports reached $332 billion, up 26.5 percent.

Statistics from the Russian Federation Customs showed that Russia's trade turnover reached $785 billion in 2021, up 38 percent compared to 2020. The trade surplus reached $198.16 billion, $92.72 billion higher than that of 2020.

Russia's 2021 exports reached $491.58 billion, up 45.8 percent. Imports hit $293.42 billion, up 26.7 percent compared to 2020.
