Foreign Investment in Ho Chi Minh City Surges by 43.1% in First Two Months of 2023

Foreign investment in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, has increased by 43.1% to reach $332.3 million in the first two months of 2023, according to the city's Department of Statistics.

The city granted investment certificates to 101 projects during this period, with registered capital of $97.7 million, an increase of 22.8% compared to the same period last year. Singapore led the way in newly licensed projects, with 23 projects and registered capital of $76.6 million, while South Korea followed with nine projects and registered capital of $4.8 million.

In terms of sectors, two construction projects were registered with a capital of $54.5 million, followed by 39 projects in the wholesale and retail sector with a registered capital of $31.3 million.

There were also 30 projects in professional, scientific, and technological activities with registered capital of $7.4 million and two projects in processing and manufacturing with registered capital of $3 million.

In addition, there were 29 projects that adjusted their registered capital, with a total increased capital of $47.6 million. The information and communication sector led in adjusted capital with $22.2 million.

The city also had 275 cases of foreign investors participating in capital contribution activities, buying shares, and buying back contributed capital, with a total capital of $187 million, up 15.9% compared to the same period last year.

As of February 20, 2023, there were 11,447 foreign investment projects in effect in the city, with a total newly registered and increased investment capital of nearly $56.33 billion, and 24,565 cases of foreign investors participating in capital contribution, share purchase, and purchase of contributed capital of domestic enterprises with registered contributed capital equivalent to $23.98 billion. The total value of new foreign investment capital, increased investment capital, and contributed capital, share purchase, and purchase of contributed capital into the city reached nearly $80.31 billion.
