Covid-19 suspends, dissolves 5,300 enterprises in Mekong Delta

In the seven-month period, 1,700 enterprises temporarily suspended businesses, 2,600 enterprises officially suspended operations, while more than 1,000 enterprises dissolved.
The chamber expected that the situation could be worsened as the second wave of pandemic in Vietnam remains complicated. Performance of businesses in the coming time could remain unstable.
In July, the delta had 912 newly-established enterprises, slightly down from the previous month. The new enterprises with register capital of more than VND12 trillion ($513 million) created jobs for more than 7,000 people.
Long An, Can Tho, and Kien Giang are localities with the highest number of newly established enterprises in the region, with 100 enterprises.
In the first seven months, Mekong Delta region had more than 5,000 newly established enterprises, and nearly 2,000 enterprises resumed operation.
However, the situation of attracting foreign investment has not recovered. In July, the delta attracted eight more projects with a total investment of $52 million. Long An got five projects with more than $13 million.
In July, the total import-export revenue of the Mekong Delta reached $2.5 billion with nearly $990 million of trade surplus. Export turnover of the region increased 11% over the previous month and 5% higher than the same period last year.
