VinSmart, a unit of Vietnam’s largest private conglomerate Vingroup has produced its first 5G smartphones in cooperation with the U.S.’s Qualcomm, the company said on Monday.

With the Vsmart Aris 5G smartphone, VinSmart has become the first Vietnamese company to successfully produce a device using 5G technology.

The Vsmart Aris 5G phone is equipped with a Snapdragon 765G 5G module platform and a quantum security chip. It also has a Super AMOLED 6.39” display, 8GB RAM and a 4,000 mAh battery.

The company didn’t say when it planned to market the model, prices or how many units it will produce.

The success affirms the production capacity of domestic businesses and opens opportunities for Vietnamese to access the world-class technology products, Vingroup said.

Vsmart Aris 5G is the first in the world to use a modular design platform, which allows flexible hardware design, shortens product development time, supports most of the frequency bands used in the market in the world.

“5G will determine the success of digital society. All countries use 5G networks to prove their level of science and technology. Therefore, we have determined that 5G is a strategic project, and we are devoted to developing technology products with high brain content”, said Tran Minh Trung, deputy general director of VinSmart Research and Production JSC.

VinSmart plans to continue researching for other next-generation 5G products.
