The production shift is scheduled in 2020 and the Samsung Electronics Ho Chi Minh Complex in the city’s High-Tech Park will be the destination.
Currently, Samsung is producing more than 40 types of computer screens in Vietnam. The Made-in-Vietnam Samsung above-24-inch LCDs contributed 34% of the world market share in the first quarter, leading the market, according to research firm IDC.
By shifting production chains to Vietnam, Samsung has committed to boosting investment in the country. The firm sees Vietnam as one of the important links in Samsung's global supply chain.
The Ho Chi Minh city-based Samsung plant was built in mid-2015 and officially came into operation in 2016. This has become Samsung’s second-largest plant producing TV and computer screens, electronics devices in the world, after a plant in Mexico.
Samsung has injected $2 billion into the project that covers 94 hectares of land in the hi-tech area. Its products have been exported to more than 75 countries.
However, the South Korean tech giant said those reports were untrue. Local media reported the relocation of Samsung’s display production from China citing an announcement on the website of Samsung Vietnam, but the parent company in Seoul said the reports were “groundless”, Reuters said.
Samsung did not elaborate.
