On December 23, 2022, Samsung Vietnam officially opened the new Research and Development Center (R&D) in Tay Ho Tay Urban Area (Hanoi), in the attendance of Prime Minister Pham Minh and Chairman of Samsung Group Lee Jae Yong.
With 16 stories and three basements, a total building area of 11,603 m2, and a floor area of 79,511 m2, Samsung's R&D Center is intended to house 3,000 engineers.
This is also the first large-scale high-rise skyscraper in Vietnam developed by a foreign-invested firm specialized in technological development.
Addressing the R&D Center's inauguration ceremony, Mr. Roh Tae-Moon, Director of Samsung Electronics Corporation, stated that Samsung has enhanced its professional capacity and expanded its development field so that this place not only becomes the leading R&D center in Southeast Asia, but also the number one R&D center in the world.
The Prime Minister expressed his desire that Samsung promotes specific research cooperation and link the network of Vietnamese experts, intellectuals, technology enterprises, and so on.
"Vietnam is dedicated to continuing to accompany and provide favorable conditions for Samsung Group's projects to invest in business successfully and expand sustainably in Vietnam in a win-win spirit," Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated.
Currently, Vietnam produces 50% of Samsung's total global supply of mobile phones. In addition, Samsung is also conducting software development and testing (S/W) of mobile devices and networks in Vietnam.
