Mobile World, a major retailer of smartphones and electronics, has planned to expand in Indonesia market after closing its Bluetronics smartphone and electronics chain stores in Cambodia.

After a quarter in the Indonesian market, Mobile World executives are optimistic about the market's enormous potential. On April 12, the Vietnamese retailer and joint venture partner Erajaya hosted the Erablue Partner Conference, which was attended by 62 of the country's leading suppliers.

Mobile World has been doing business in Indonesia with the brand Erablue for a quarter as of April 2023. The business performed "relatively well," averaging 4.5-5 billion VND per month per store.

The Erablue brand is owned by PT Erablue Elektronic, a joint venture between Mobile World and the local unit PT Erafone Artha Retailindo, a subsidiary of Indonesia's largest technology retail group. This joint venture was formed a year ago and now operates five electronics retail stores in Jakarta's Tangerang district: Ciledug, Ciputat, BSD, and Pamulang.

According to Mobile World leaders, Erablue's potential is enormous, 2-3 times that of Vietnam, and the Indonesian consumer electronics retail market is still in its infancy. The retail segment is dominated by traditional small stores, with the two largest chains accounting for less than 200 locations. The delivery and installation of equipment is currently dependent on the manufacturers and can take up to 5-7 days.

Erablue intends to become a market leader in consumer electronics retail by constructing 500 stores over the next five years and becoming the first choice due to its superior service and experience model.

Erablue currently operates five stores in Jakarta's Tangerang district: Ciledug, Ciputat, BSD, and Pamulang. In 2023, the company is prepared to collaborate with its business partners to further develop and expand its business model.

The Indonesian market is larger in terms of size, area, and population than the Vietnamese market. In terms of consumption structure, the phone segment's revenue is also twice that of Vietnam.

However, the electronics segment is not as prosperous; revenue is only about half that of Vietnam, indicating that it is still in its infancy. The two largest retailers in Indonesia have fewer than 100 stores combined, with the majority of them located in malls.
