Ford confirms temporary factory shutdown in Vietnam on virus pressure

Ford Vietnam has confirmed that it temporarily halt production from March 26 to ensure safety for employees amid the spread of coronavirus pandemic, Bizlive news website cited the company’s leaders.

The automobile manufacturer of the United States has become the first car maker in in Vietnam to halt production on Covid-19.

Ford’s Vietnam plant is among its factories in international markets including India, South Africa and Thailand have to temporarily halt production in response to the pandemic.

Before making this decision on African and Asian markets, the US automaker also temporarily suspended production of vehicles and engines in North America, South America and Europe.

The company asked employees to work remotely, except for those employees who perform essential tasks and are required to be present at the workplace.

Regarding the time to resume operation, Ford said the production suspension will be done in a few weeks depending on the situation of the disease.

The health and safety of employees, dealers, customers, and partners are Ford's highest priority, Mark Ovenden, president of IMG, a huge part of Ford’s business that covers almost 100 markets including Australia, New Zealand, ASEAN, India, South Korea, Mexico, the Middle East and Africa.
