As many as 191 Toyota Raize units, which were imported from Indonesia and manufactured between March 29 and October 8, 2021, are subject to the recall.
All of the above vehicles have been sold on the market, according to news site VnExpress.
The shock absorber is a part in the engine compartment, which has the function of mounting and holding the upper end of the shock absorber assembly in the shock absorber system.
The biggest effect of the shock absorber is to support the load on the front wheels, and guide the steering system.
On faulty Raize compact crossovers, when subjected to strong impacts such as running through speed bumps, potholes, and bumpy roads, the welds of the docks may come off.
The flaking weld will make an unusual noise in the front.
In the worst-case scenario, the failure of the part can cause the car to crash down and be out of control, affecting user safety.
The company has not reported any accidents due to the defect yet.
The recall was put into effect this month and will last until all vehicles are repaired.
Toyota Vietnam recommends that customers take the car to the nearest dealer for inspection.
Users can contact the company or authorized dealers to find out if their vehicle is included in the recall.
The repair is expected to take 7-24 hours for each vehicle, free of charge at dealers.
The remedy could be to reinforce or replace the weld on the front shock absorber mount.
In Indonesia, the Japanese automaker has recalled 14,777 Raize cars.
Toyota’s luxury brand, Lexus, has a similar problem.
Recently, Lexus USA recalled about 4,200 NX cars because of the lack of welds on the front dampers, according to VnExpress.
The NX is also sold in Vietnam but the company has not announced a recall.
Toyota Raize is a high-rise A+ car sold in the Vietnamese market since October 2021, with a starting price of VND527 million (US$22,942).
By the end of this year’s first quarter, the company sold 1,671 Raize units, 20 more than the rivaling Kia Sonet.
