Careful study needed for HCMC - Can Tho express rail project

Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Danh Huy has asked that relevant agencies conduct careful studies and assessments of the construction of the Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho high-speed railway line.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho high-speed railway line is considered a difficult large-scale project using complex techniques.

The line will stretch more than 174 km in length and pass through six cities and provinces, running between An Binh railway station in southern Binh Duong province and Can Tho railway station in the Mekong Delta’s Can Tho city.

Total investment is estimated at $9 billion.

It is designed to have a speed of 200 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for cargo trains.

The ministry also asked the project’s management board to complete paperwork on the investment plan for submission to the ministry for consideration this month.
